PROMPT GALLERY

This package was developed for the Prompt Gallery on campus at ANU in a visual communication course. I developed a logo, exhibition posters, flyers and social media collateral. Focusing on line, shape and colour, I aimed to develop a strong and recognisable brand for the gallery. The gallery is compact, experimental and vibrant, and I aimed to convey this in my work. The style is colourful and fun, yet minimalistic and sophisticated. The word prompt is synonymous with words, elicit, induce, evoke, precipitate. These words were the starting point for my concept of the Prompt Gallery branding. The logotype I designed contains no graphics, only slightly manipulated text. I cut away part of the word ‘prompt’ to play on idea of gestalt theory, and ‘prompting’ the mind to fill in the gaps of the missing logo. Using an uncomplicated geometric composition allowed for full legibility and functionality within the designs. When designing the set of posters, I prioritised building a strong brand identity for the gallery over promoting the individual exhibitions themselves, as the gallery does not yet have a strong reputation or identity. By creating bright and effective marketing collateral, the brand will become recognisable, subsequently raising awareness of the gallery’s exhibitions. Visitors will be motivated to see each exhibition, because they are familiar with the gallery itself.

ANU GIVING DAY

Giving Day is an annual 24-hour digital fundraising campaign at the Australian National University. Giving Day is all about bringing people together to support students in achieving their potential. In 2018 the funds raised went towards the regional and rural equity scholarship to help talented students from around Australia come to ANU. In a day, $135,167 was raised, funding 27 scholarships, breaking the record for previous years. “Give students more than a degree" was the theme for 2018’s Giving Day.

Working with an illustrator, the campaign we designed for Giving Day 2018 focuses on the things we love about living in Canberra and going to ANU. We aimed to create illustrations that reflect the experiences students can have at ANU. A large part of the target audience was alumni, so the designs featured a few nostalgic tongue-in-cheek references to the university and the city, including the signature duck with a mortar board, the sky whale, and some Canberra landmarks. Everything was hand drawn, including the font, and then developed in Adobe Illustrator. The designs are playful and unrefined, targeted at the young student audience. We developed posters, flyers, stickers, posts for Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, a website banner, and the graphics were used in animated promotional videos.

ANU GRAD SHOW WEB DESIGN

I designed and produced a working website in a Front-End Web course at uni, learning fundamental production technologies such as HTML, CSS and Javascript. The ANU School of Art and Design’s annual Graduating Exhibition is the culminating event for SOA&D Bachelors, Honours, Masters and Postgraduate students. It is an important public event in presenting SOA&D work to the public and contributes to the profile and reputation of the School in the local community. I maintained a minimalistic aesthetic with a grid system, lots of negative space and minimal colour to avoid an overwhelming visual experience for users and to best complement each artist’s work.

WINDLAB DYNAMIC DESIGN

Windlab is a global renewable energy development company. Working with a partner in a Front-End Web course, we applied programming techniques to develop a dynamic visual identity for the company. We used live weather data to create wind visualisations which displayed live wind direction and speed with a city input function for users. These visualisations were designed to be displayed on screens, such as in offices or on the website, showing live wind between Windlab’s five offices around the world. We added an image saving function to produce imagery for print, which was used on business cards, brochures and . Location scouting is a major part of Windlab’s business practice, so we created print media that varied slightly between each of the five countries. We intended to generate a dynamic identity that was meaningful and reflected the nature of the company, with the location-based data visualisations representing Windlab’s business practice.
